A Penniless College Student’s Weblog

so i have looked online for info about web 2.0 and i can not find much. oh i can find people talking about it alright, but as far as concrete information goes, i got almost nothing. but through deductive reasoning i gather that web 2.0 is the new web. it is where the web has evolved, and is still evolving to. it’s gotten where we can not live with out the web. or at least we think we can’t. it’s kinda like a car. there is still public transportation and our own two legs. but it would really suck to do without your own car. i mean you can do anything on there. you can even get groceries delivered to your house. hell, if you were so inclined you would never have to leave your house again. the way gas prices are i have considered it myself. you know, it might be easier (and cheaper) to go without the car. you can go to school online, you can work online, you can buy just about anything online. and think about all of those web sites that you just can not live without. cnn, msnbc, espn, wikipedia, google, yahoo, amazon, map quest, ebay, craigs list, netflix, you tube, my space, face book or whatever. the list of sites that people “can not live without” could go on for forever. and how does this all pertain to me? i research online. it is the fastest way to get information 90% of the time. when i get out of school i should probably have my portfolio online. (whether i will or not still remains to be seen) it is the best way to get my work out there to the most people. and i should social network, and the best way to do that is via the web. but i don’t, maybe i should start though. isn’t that the whole purpose of this exercise?

okay……. so i have never blogged before. i have never really had any desire to blog before. (i do not think i have even read a blog before, how sad am i) i mean,who really cares what i have to say? but maybe some of you are thinking the same thing. i can not possibly be the only blogger virgin in the class right?

truth be told i am also a web design newbie. i have no experience what so ever with web design. this is my very first class dealing with scripting, or code, or html. half of the words that are coming out of mr.batchelder’s mouth is like a foreign language. i will be so happy when i get a vocab list, let me tell you. (something i did not think i would ever hear myself say.) and until monday, dreamweaver was just another icon that sat at the bottom of my screen. so this class is full of firsts for me.

all of this being said, i know that web design would be a nice edition to my resume. the more stuff that i can cram on there, the more desirable i will be to employers. i mean why hire 5 people that can do 1 thing each when you can hire 1 person that can do it all? and, naturally, you would be willing to pay that 1 person more for all that know how. right?

every company has a web site these days, or they need one. and even if they have one it needs to be constantly updated. if they have someone that can design and do scripting,then all the better. alot of business is being done over the web now. you do all kinds of stuff online, pay bills, buy stuff, sell stuff, research, buy tickets, pay tickets, network, meet people, stay in touch with old friends, find a job, hire for a job. all of these things require a web site, and someone had to design that web site. maybe one day that person could be me or you.

i am so lost. i only understand half of what he is saying…..
